Pescare Post-Mortem

Aurora Postmortem

“Fish die belly upward, and rise to the surface. It’s their way of falling.” ― André Gide

Photography Challenge: Post-Mortem Photography

This is the third and final self-assignment in my recent series of Victorian photography genre tributes.

This photo is an homage to the somewhat morbid practice of Victorian post-mortem studio photography.

After my beloved pet rescue goldfish Aurora died I took this photograph of her body floating in a bowl of water. She’d always been incredibly beautiful but difficult to capture in a photo.
