“I’ve been afraid of people playing their life away with too many toys.” ― Ray Bradbury
This is the first in my series of photographs of back-lit, vintage View-Master reels: American Scenic Wonders – Farmlands and Forests.
For this image I merged two photos that I took of this View-Master reel, one with the reel back-lit (which illuminated the View-Master slides but left the reel and text silhouetted in black) and another photograph of the reel lit from above (which showed the paper reel and text but left the slides dark).
Combining these photos allowed me to show the reel as if it were lit from behind – as when viewed with a View-Master – while at the same time maintaining the visibility of the reel and it’s text.
I love this
Thank you so so so much, Hollywood! I love you guys, too! 🙂
Thanks surfvegan! I’ve got some funny reels coming up soon. 🙂
What a wonderful project! Creative to combine photos. Really shows all the details. Love the old View Masters. Gave away a couple at Xmas. Has now progressed to VR. Keep up your creative beautiful projects. Always look forward to seeing your work!
Thank you so much, my dear friend! It’s comments like yours that keep me going. 🙂 VR View-Masters, who would have thought? Kudos to you for continuing to carry the V-M flame by sharing the magic with peeps at Xmas. You’re the man, Rog!
